Happy 600th birthday, my beloved Joan of Arc. A teenage peasant girl who changed history. Visionary, warrior, saint, cross-dresser, burned to death by her own church.

Read the trial transcripts sometime. She was brilliant and a bit snarky.

Jehanne, I salute you.

(Thanks to [personal profile] jehanne1431 who reminded me that it was 600 years.)

It's hard to know what a person who's been dead for a number of centuries would prefer to be called, but I'm with Leslie Feinberg on this one -- Joan of Arc chose to die rather than wear gender-normative clothing; I'd say he was a trans man, not a "crossdresser".

Aww yeah. I love her so, too. Thank you for the birthday post - I didn't know otherwise!

She was quite the hera.

I found some faaaaascinating stuff about her in the background material of my Steamsmith poetic series. It seems she wound up on the other side and turned history in a different direction.
